We Bought a Fixer: Studio Renovation Complete!

Hi there. How are you?

We're finally ready to unveil our fully renovated studio space. We were able to turn a tired, water damaged basement den into a large, bright and super functional artist studio. I have to admit, it's pretty freaking cool!!  Click HERE to see the early stages of the studio renovation.

After all of the painting and lighting was done, Matt got to work building these work tables. He even built me some flat files for my immense stock of paper

.

Next, we gave all of the built-ins a coat of paint.

 Ta-da! White paint is magical!

Last weekend, we did final touch-ups and started moving stuff in.

This is my realm.  I've got a nice space for drawing and computing.

This is Matt's pad. He really can't wait to paint again!

The massive work table measures 4' x 6' and has storage galore.

I like that this table was built to stand up at and I can really spread out on in it.

Speaking of storage, we have tons! Between the open shelves here......

....And the closed storage along the back wall, we're set!

We even organized it all to make the most of the storage space.

I've already got a couple of new pieces going in the new space. Stay tuned!

I can't believe we have such an awesome studio space, in our house! I really have to give most of the credit for this amazing transformation to Matt. He is super talented and so motivated when it comes to home renovation. I'm a lucky girl. What fun we will have here! Have a great week friends. Ta-Ta!

We Bought a Fixer: Studio Renovation

Hi there. How are you?

As long time readers know, we bought a fixer-upper home in December of 2012. We've renovated the entire main floor and now have moved on to our basement.

Matt has been itching to make art again, so right before Thanksgiving, we started working on our new studio.

The space we've decided to use as our studio was actually two connected rooms. It was kind of a bedroom and den thing. The first thing we did was tear out the wall between the two rooms. Now we've got a large "L" shaped space. Sorry, I don't have a good shot of the layout yet.

Matt installed lots of pot lights and track lighting to brighten up the space.

We spent this past weekend painting. It's amazing what a coat of white paint can do to a space! I love how the exposed beam pops against the white.

We're installing interlocking foam tiles on the floor. It feels good under foot, was a breeze to lay down and was very reasonably priced.

Matt couldn't help but inject a little bit of color and personality in the space right away.  He gave the vent a coat of spray paint before re-installing it. Love it!

Matt is now working on building a large work table and some more built-in storage. It's really going to be a great space for both of us to work in. Can't wait until it's finished!

As we are traveling for the holidays, this will probably be my last post for the year. Wishing you and yours all the best! Ta-Ta!

P.S. I'll be sending out a special holiday gift to everyone on my e-mail list later this week. Sign up

if you'd like to be included. Thanks!

We Bought a Fixer - The Built-in got Bigger!

Hi again. How are you?
I had a really productive day in my studio, pumping out some new work.
I just couldn't tear myself away to write my Wednesday post until now!

A few weeks back, Matt added a little extension to our built-in.

He constructed a desk to span the space between the bookcase and the entertainment center.
Pretty smart use of space if I do say so myself!
Despite the fact that there are "his and hers" chairs here, Matt has claimed this as his domain.
I'm totally OK with that....as I have my "secret room" studio.
(I promise to show you my studio when I get it fully decorated!)

We recently picked up this sharp looking desk chair at a yard sale for $5. What a steal!
We love its warm, worn look, and clean lines.

I've had this chair in my personal collection for years.
I love the way it plays against the dark, heavy desk chair.

Well, that's all I've got to say about that.
What you you think about our newest DIY? Do tell!

P.S. Be on the look out for new listings in my Etsy shoppe any day now!
