Bird Alert!

"Chickadee 2.0", Mixed Media Illustration by Jennifer Johansson

Hi there. How are you?

I've been neck deep in art fair prep. All studio time has been spent pumping out new work for my first show of the year. (If you're in the St. Louis area, do come see me at the Art Fair at Laumeier Sculpture Park over Mother's Day weekend.)

I've made a flock of new birds. Well, maybe not a whole flock, but some! I've been having a tough time capturing the actual look of the graph paper on these pieces. It either shows up a little too strong or drops out entirely when I try even out the white balance. Even so, I'm still really liking working on gridded paper and have done most of my new work on triangular isometric paper.

This new collection is a bit more minimalist than those I have done in the past. I'm trying to simplify in my art these days. I have to constantly fight not to over-do things. To read about how I create these birds, click HERE.

All of these new pieces are for sale, but are not listed on Etsy. If you are interested in purchasing, do give me a shout!

Hope things are well and springy in your world. Ta-Ta for now!

P.S. Do you Pinterest? I've got a great "Bird Nerd" board going there. Go see and follow along!

Bird is the Word

I've been all about the birds lately. It's really all I want to draw.

Maybe because it's spring and the so many birdies are back in town and visiting our feeders.

I've made a new male Cardinal and have another one planned.  I'm thinking they'll go over big in St. Louis, where I have my first art fair of the year. As a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan, I detest the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team,  but I'm happy to sell their fans Cardinal art!

I still can't believe I'm drawing birds. (Read more about my love-hate relationship with the feathered ones here.)  Now, I still don't want them anywhere near me.....I had a major flip out when there was one flying around in the garage last week. But, from the safety of my living room window, I appreciate their grace and beauty.

Have a good week friends. Hope spring has sprung in your neck of the woods. Ta-Ta!

The Tuesday News: Baltimore Oriole Print

Hi there. How are you?
This blog has been long neglected, but I'm to try to step my game. My plan is write a new post every Tuesday. Can you help me stick to it? You have my permission to publicly flog me if I don't post!

I have to admit, I play favorites. My Baltimore Oriole is so my fave of my bird series. My husband thinks he looks mean. I think he's full of personality! I was thrilled to sell the original Baltimore Oriole piece a couple of weeks ago at holiday craft fair. Now, I can offer the little guy as a print!

The 5" x 7" image is printed with archival pigment based inks on artist quality heavy matte paper. There is a small white border around the print for your matting/framing convenience. It will be signed and titled on the front. At just $12, he'd make a nice holiday gift for any bird nerd. Get your very own Baltimore Oriole print HERE.

One more bit of news....I've got a shop set up over on Papernstitch.com for the holidays. There's a COUPON CODE over there just waiting for you to use in my shop!

See you next Tuesday. Ta-ta!
