Matt's at Artscene!

This weekend, Matt (my husband-to-be) has his very first solo art show!  Featuring 9 new pieces,  "Suburban Still-Life" opens Friday, October 1st at JR Kortman Gallery.

This weekend Matt and I took all the work over to Kortman's and helped gallery director Doc Slafkosky hang the show.  Matt's hard work over the last few months has paid off, as the art looks fabulous in the space.

Now, this is not your grandmother's art show. Some of the pieces are provocative and in your face but not vulgar or graphic. If you can handle "Victor", whom Matt is posing next to, you can handle the rest of the show.

The opening of this show corresponds with the city wide Fall Artscene event. There will be art on display and for purchase at 41 venues around town.  This is a totally free event!

As many of you know, Matt and I met at Artscene last year, when we were both exhibiting art at WallBlank Gallery. We're hoping to have as much fun this year as we did last!

All of the Artscene venues will be open on Friday, October 1st from 5-9 pm and on Saturday, October 2nd from 3-9 pm. If you can't make it out this weekend, "Suburban Still Life" will be on display during regular Kortman's store hours (M-Sat 10-6) until November 15th.

Kortman's is located in downtown Rockford at 107 N Main St, just across the street from Octane.

Hope to see you there!

Happy New Year

Happy 2010 friends! I hope that this new year brings many good things to all.

Sadly, I've reached the end of my 2 week vacation and I am reluctantly thinking about going back to work tomorrow. Its been a glorious 2 weeks and I've relished all of my free time!

During the break I made some new art for the shop and further experimented with oil painting. I am working on a small oil painting of my own and Matt and I collaborated once again on a larger piece. Both are close to finished. I'll be sure to post when they are complete. I created the cute little "Valentiny" ACEO, which is for sale on Etsy. It will also be available as a card in the near future for all your Valentine needs. I'm also cooking up some tiny ACEO sized (2.5" x 3.5") valentines with matching tiny little envelopes.

Happily, I said goodbye to two large original mixed media pieces during the holiday season. "Petals and Postage" (above) sold at the Wallblank holiday show and "Necessity Breeds Invention" (below) was sold via Etsy to an old friend of mine. These are the first mixed media pieces of this size (8" x 10") that I've sold. I'm happy to see that going big is finally paying off and it motivates me to make more in this size.

I'm looking forward to 2010 and there are already some big plans in the works. I am hoping to enter and show at 2 local juried art shows AND......go to Italy!!! I'm working on a passport at the moment and am trying to sock away all of the money I can to make the trip happen. Wish me luck.

Off to enjoy the last few hours of freedom. Ta Ta!

Artscene This Weekend

I'm thrilled to be participating in Artscene this weekend at Wallblank Gallery. I will be showing with seven other artists in a beautiful gallery space at the the old Brewhouse on Prairie Street. We will be exhibiting and selling fine art prints and originals. With two other shows going on in the Brewhouse at the same time, you can see 30 artists in one place! Should be fun.

The show runs Friday, October 2nd from 5-9 PM and Saturday, October 3rd from 3-9 pm. There are 45 venues around Rockford showing art over the weekend. Make a night or a weekend of it!

For more information, visit the Fall Artscene website.

Hope to see you there.
