Hi there. How are you?
I'm a mixed media artist, living and working in Carbondale, Illinois with my husband Matthew, who is also an artist. I have always been interested in art, but really got serious about it in high school. I had two really gifted art teachers that helped me build a strong set of foundational skills. Though I loved art and was very successful, I didn’t think see myself becoming a professional artist, so I went off to the college to study Physical Therapy. After struggling through my chemistry courses and loving my art studio, I made the switch to Art Education and have never looked back.
For 15 years, I taught high school art and art history while making art on the side. It was a good gig and I was good at teaching, but I knew there was more for me out there. In the fall of 2011, my husband landed a new job that necessitated a major move. I was able to quit my teaching job and concentrate more on my art. I now happily split my day making art in my studio and working at the local library as the Teen and Youth Program Coordinator.
When I'm not "arting" you'll find me working on projects in our mid-century fixer-upper home or in our yard and vegetable garden. Matt and I do a lot of cooking and love to utilize the abundance of local foods that Southern Illinois has to offer. You'll also find us patronizing our many local wineries, breweries and vibrant local music scene. (Can you tell we love Carbondale?) We love to travel and recently took a trip to Italy and Sicily. Yoga, walking, biking and my 17 year-old stepson Jack keep me active.
